When can I start my course?

Our  courses start every Monday except for Public Holidays and our annual Christmas holiday when we are closed for two weeks.

How do I book a course?

First, you need to decide which course you want to do then.

Click on  the ‘Book a course now’ button which will take you to the application form.

Once you have completed this, you will be taken to the check-out for payment.

What qualification do the teachers have?

All teachers are university graduates who hold  a recognised qualification in teaching English (English as a Foreign Language).   All of our teachers are required to have  a minimum of 2 years experience although our current staff have a minimum of 5 and up to 20 years’ experience.   Half of our  teachers also have the highest English teaching qualification which is a level 3 Diploma.

We run training sessions every month for our teachers and encourage them all to participate in additional training, seminars and CPD

Can I extend or change my course?

It is easy to extend your course as long as you come to talk to us about your new dates. We are not  usually able to shorten your course or reduce your hours of study except in special circumstances.  Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for further information.

Will I get a certificate at the end of my course?
What happens if I cancel my course?

Please refer to the cancellation policy in our Terms and Conditions.

 

 

Can I take holidays?

If you would like to take a holiday, you must give the school two weeks’ notice.   You can take a limited amount of holiday with each course as follows:;  one week for every six week course and two weeks for every twelve week course.

What happens if I am ill during my course?

If you are ill for a day or two, with a minor illness, you will have to lose the  days that you cannot attend your course.

If you are ill for a week or more,  and and can provide a doctor’s note to this effect,  we can put your course on hold and add the lost week(s)  to the end of  your course.  However, you must advise the school on the same day that your absence starts.  The school cannot compensate for any lost time that is reported retrospectively.

How far in advance do I need to make a booking?

Ideally you will book with enough notice as possible, especially if you require accommodation.   However, we will accept your booking at any time up until and on the day of your course provided we have places.

When do I have to pay?

The balance of your fees must be received before the course start date or on arrival at the school.

How can I pay?

Payment can be made by using the payment methods on the website (Sage Pay),  credit card, bank transfer or  cash (only if paying at the school).

Can I postpone my course?

If you cannot take up your place on a course on the specified date, provided that you notify the school in advance,  we can postpone the start date.

 

Can I extend or change my accommodation?

If there is availability, you may  extend your accommodation as long as it is for the same period as your course.  If you wish  to change your accommodation, you will need to give us notice of at least one week otherwise you will have to pay one week’s fees. Should you have a serious complaint about your accommodation, we can organise a change of accommodation without  penalty or advance notice.

Is it possible to use Internet at the school?

Yes, we have free wifi. You may access this with a code that the school can give you.

 

Does the school have a library?

We have a small library of books that are available for lending.  Many of these are graded readers and are suitable for all levels.

Can I open a bank account in the UK?

It can be  difficult for for foreign students to open an account with a UK bank if they are here for less than a year.  You will also have to show that you have a bank account in your own country.  You may request a bank letter from the school which will state the length of your course.

Do I have access to health and medical services in the UK as a student?
Can I pay in instalments?

We can offer payment plans to students who would like to pay in instalments. You need to speak to the Registrar and     agree a schedule of payments.

 

 

How many levels do you have?

We offer 4  levels of study for General English as follows:

Pre Intermediate       A2

Intermediate               B1

Upper Intermediate  B2

Advanced                    C1

We also have the following exam classes:

Cambridge First Certificate   B2

Cambridge Advanced             C1

IELTS                                        B1 – C1

Are my exam fees included in the price?

Any exam fees are not included in the course price and  need to be paid separately when you book your exam.

How much homework am I expected to do?

Homework is set on a daily basis  for all courses which you are encouraged to do if possible to maximise your progress.

What teaching methods does your school use?

Our teaching methods  are based on communicative interaction between your teacher and other students.  You will develop all four skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing in every lesson. You will also study grammar,  extend your vocabulary  and build confidence in communication through a variety of activities and up-to-date course books.

What happens if I cancel my course?

How many students are in any one class?

Max.18

What is the average age of the students?

Average age is 24 but ages range from 16 and 60 years yrs old.

Do I need to buy a book?

Course material is not included in the cost of your course. New and used books can be purchased at reception.

Are there any other costs?

Apart from a Registration fee, which is payable once only, you will only have to buy your books. The approximate cost of a course book is £30 but you may buy a second-hand one if you wish.

 

How do I apply for a visa?

Please refer to our Visas page for information on visa types.  You will need to apply for your short term student visitor visa in your own country.

What is the FCE?

The FCE (First certificate in English) is a Cambridge ESOL exam for English language learners.

Why take FCE?

This internationally recognised qualification can help you study in English at foundation or pathway level, work in an English-speaking environment or adapt to life in an English-speaking country.

Who accepts FCE?

FCE is accepted by a large number of professional organisations including HSBC, Marks and Spencers and Ernst and Young

2 parts You must produce two different pieces of writing, such as letters, reports, reviews and essays.
Listening 

(about 40 minutes)

 

4 parts/30 questions You need to understand a range of spoken materials, such as news programmes, presentations and everyday conversations.
Speaking 

(14 minutes per pair of candidates)

 

4 parts Tests your ability to communicate effectively in face-to-face situations. You will take the Speaking test with one or two other candidates.

What is the CAE?

Approximately six weeks after you have taken the exam your results will be available on the Cambridge Candidate Support Website. The results will show how well you performed in each paper. You will then be sent your certificate about a month later.

What is IELTS?

IELTS is the International English Language testing system which tests English proficiency internationally.

What are the different parts of the IELTS exam?

You will be tested on your listening, reading, writing and speaking.

What is the difference between IELTS Academic and IELTS general?

IELTS Academic is usually for University Entry at undergraduate or post graduate level

Where and when is the IELTS exam?

IELTS is available on 48 fixed dates a year – up to four times a month, depending on local demand. You can take the exam at any IELTS test centre to find out more information  contact your local test centre.

What score do I need to pass IELTS?

You will be given a score from 1 to 9 for each part of the test – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The average produces your overall band score. You can score whole (e.g., 5.0, 6.0, 7.0) or half (e.g., 5.5., 6.5, 7.5) bands in each part of the test.

How long do I have to wait for my results?

You will be sent a test report form 13 calendar days after taking the test
