Your First Day

It is a good idea to arrive in London one or two days before your course begins. You can then try your journey from your accommodation to the school and get used to British food!

On the first day of your course you should arrive 30 minutes before your preferred course time. Please remember to bring your confirmation letter from the school. If you are studying for more than 14 weeks then you can save money on travel in London by applying for a Student Discount Travel Card. This card costs £5 but gives you a 33% reduction on London Underground and London buses. Please ask in the office if you would like to receive one of these cards.

Your first task as a student at Mayfair School will be to take our placement test, this test is a written and spoken exam to check your level of English. From this test we will tell you your level and the most suitable class for you. You will then start your class. Please remember that we will always try to give you the time and location of your choice, however, it is sometimes necessary for students to study at a different time or location. If this happens we will always try to give you your first choice of time and location as soon as possible.

Description of what happens on the first day at Mayfair school

If you have only paid a deposit for your course we will collect the rest of your fees on your first day in school. This is a good time for you to ask any questions about your accommodation, journey to school, free time etc.

When you start your first class please remember that it is normal to be nervous and that you may need a day or two to settle in. However, all of our teachers and students are very friendly and will help you as much as possible.

If you think your level is wrong and that your class is too easy or too difficult - don't panic. Speak to your teacher or the Director of Studies and they will be happy to help you.

Please read all of the signs in the classrooms and around the school, some contain useful information to help you study and others tell you about the social programme and free events.

We hope you enjoy your first day and every day that you spend at Mayfair School.
