In Spring 2009 the visa system for international students visiting the UK is changing, a start date has not yet been finalised and the new system may also be reviewed/amended before it is launched. Please contact the school directly with any query relating to visas required for courses starting after April 2009.
If you are coming to the UK from a European Union (EU) country or from Switzerland or Iceland you do not need a visa to study in the UK.
If you are coming from another country then please check the UK Foreign Office web site to see if you need a visa to study in the UK. Please remember that to obtain a student visa you must study a minimum of 15 hours per week and you must study at a school listed on the Department for Education and Skills Register of Colleges and Learning Providers.
You can apply for a student visa from British embassies or consulates.
If you need an interview to obtain your visa please remember that it can take a long time to get an appointment at the embassy or consulate so it is a good idea to book your course early.
Make sure you apply for a visa for the duration of your course. You can extend a student visa when you are in the UK but you must pay to do this.
Remember to take your confirmation letter (with your course and booking details) to your interview.
At the interview you will speak to a Visa Officer who will ask questions about you and your course. Please read the sample questions below to help you prepare.
Which course do you want to study in the UK?
Tell the Visa Officer the name of your course, the name of the school and how long you want to study. Tell them the names of any examinations you are planning to take. Show your confirmation letter from the school.
