Shop London

London is world famous for its shopping. Below you can find a list of London's best shopping areas and details of some of the more famous shops.

Charing Cross Road

Running from Trafalgar Square to St Giles' Circus, where it turns into Tottenham Court Road, Charing Cross Road has a reputation for its bookshops, specialising in everything from titles on Art to science fiction and crime dramas.

Further down Charing Cross Road lies Denmark Street, which is home to a number of music shops as well as the London Astoria, an almost legendary concert venue.

Here you will also find the famous school of Fine Art, Central St Martin's

Chinatown

Cocktails

Chinatown is the unofficial name for the area, just below Soho, between Leicester Square and Shaftesbury Avenue. Although tiny it is home to many of London's 60,000 Chinese population, the area is primarily commercial and remains a focal point for the Chinese community with a number of Chinese restaurants, Chinese supermarkets and souvenir shops.

During Chinese holidays such as the Chinese New Year, the streets are decorated with flags and lanterns and thousands of Chinese take to the streets amidst dragon and lion dances and loud firecrackers.

The main attraction for Londoners and tourists is the abundance of Chinese restaurants - Chinatown has some of the best and some of the worst in London. Look for where the Chinese eat.

Covent Garden

Covent Garden is one of the top shopping and entertainment areas in London. Filled with interesting restaurants and big fashion labels, it has become a popular venue for tourists to visit. It is also the home for the Royal Opera House and the London Transport Museum.

Harrods

With seven floors and five acres of floorspace, Harrods is one of the world's most famous department stores and enjoys a reputation for both quantity and quality, selling everything under the sun from fantastic foods to exclusive designer clothing. Harrods' motto reflects this: "Omnia Omnibus Ubique", which means "All Things, For All People, Everywhere".

Portobello Road

One of London's best-known and most popular tourist attractions is Portobello market, famous for it's antiques and second-hand bargains. The market gets really busy so it's best to go early.

Portobello is also well-known for it's cosmopolitan mix of cultures and atmosphere and every August the famous Notting Hill Carnival passes through.

Regent Street

Regent Street is a mecca for shoppers. Home of Hamley's, which once held the title of largest toy-shop in the world, the street curves between Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Circus.

It usually has the best Christmas Lights in London and a variety of events throughout the year.
