Mayfair News
October 2009 Events by Duncan Watson
The joys of autumn in London are upon us again – rich, red and golden leaves blowing to and fro on the streets, cosy nights in and the first hints of Christmas just round the corner. Great!
As you are reading this, it is probably unnecessary to point out what is new about our school in October; you can see it right before your eyes: the new-look Mayfair School website! It has taken us some time to get it ready and we hope you like it. Can you tell what has changed from our old site? Well, we have a more prominent Social Programme page, a whole new section dedicated to our University Pathways courses and, of course, our Mayfair News section where you can find regular updates about our school from me, the Director of Studies. We also have a new interactive feature on the site, which is called ‘Grammar Corner.’ Here students can write in with questions about English grammar, vocabulary or general English usage and, if they are lucky, receive a detailed, written answer from Professor Mayfair, our resident language guru. The true identity of the Professor is a closely guarded secret but we have chosen the Owl as his/her alter ego to signify the wisdom, charisma and experience that we feel all our teachers have in abundance!
October has also seen another busy and exciting schedule of Social Programme events in the school, ranging from the cultural, with our Pubs, Pies and Pints Night at The Old Bank of England pub, and our weekend excursion to Cambridge, to the downright fun with two nightclub visits, Onanon and the Social respectively. But undoubtedly the highpoint of this month’s programme was our Halloween Fancy Dress Party, which saw October go out with a bang. All our students came in elaborate costumes and a prize was given to the scariest. You can see the photos from the night here; can you guess who the winner was?!
That’s all for now, check back for another update in November.
