June 2009 Events by Duncan Watson

Wow! What a scorcher! This June saw the hottest day of the year as London experienced a heat wave. Temperatures soared to 33°C and London slowly began to cook. Even our students, most of whom come from hotter climates than ours, started to sweat. Fortunately when things get a bit too sticky, there is always Soho Square just a stone’s throw away, where our students can go to cool off and unwind. The weather set the tone for this month’s Social Programme too as we kicked off June with the first Boat Party of the summer. There really is no better way to spend an evening than chugging along the Thames on board the ‘HMS Mayfair,’ enjoying a drink and a dance with your classmates (and teachers too!). These events are always popular and this was no exception – this time round all 160 tickets sold out in just 24 hours. So watch this space for news of our next Boat Party. Coming soon!

June was a very important month for the school as it saw the formal commencement of our first Mayfair College courses on the 8 June. The initial timetable provides for a Certificate in Business Management and Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Management, with Diploma modules being added from January 2010. With these new courses came a new face – our first Mayfair College full-time lecturer, called Farooq. The school went to great trouble to find the right person for this role, someone who is both experienced in the world of commerce and a dedicated teacher; and we believe that, in Farooq, we have found that person. He comes highly recommended, with a First Class Honours Degree in Finance and Accounting, several years’ commercial experience gained working for some of the largest accountancy firms in the world and, most importantly, a passion for teaching which has already won praise from our students.

There is still time to enroll on these courses so don’t delay – see our website, come to our office or email us on mayfaircollege@mayfairschool.co.uk for more information.

Stay tuned for another update in August!

Duncan
