London and Britain has an excellent public transport system with all cities, towns and villages within your reach. However, travelling in the UK can be expensive and is definitely not luxurious so below are some ways you can save money on your travel costs.
Domestic and European Flights:
There are many budget airlines that fly from London airports to all European destinations, the biggest two are probably Ryan Air and Easy Jet. Flights cost as little as £1.00 plus taxes.
Oyster Cards:
An Oyster card is an electronic payment system for London buses, the Underground, trams, London overground and the DLR. An Oyster card can be a pay-as-you-go card or you can buy daily, weekly and monthly travel cards. It is much cheaper than paying cash. If you study more than 14 weeks at the school you can also apply for a student discount oyster card. This costs £5.00 and gets you a 30% discount on your oyster card. For more information visit the Transport for London website. |

The British Museum
Just minutes from Mayfair School, the British Museum is one of the world's biggest cultural collections. With fantastic mummies from Egypt and some wonderful public spaces the museum is a must for any visitor to London. You can also take advantage of the British Museum reading room, the old home of the British Library.
The Victoria and Albert Museum
If you are interested in fashion and design then this is the place for you. With costumes from around the world, the V and A is definitely worth a look.
The Tates (Modern and Britain)
Started with money from one of Britain's richest men, Sir Henry Tate (of the famous British sugar company) the two Tate galleries have come to represent the best in both British and International modern art. Even if you don't like art Tate Modern has to be one of the best places to sit and have a coffee in London with fantastic views of London and the river.
The National Gallery
If you like more traditional art then the National Gallery is for you. Only a 10 minute walk from Mayfair School it is one of the world's biggest collections of western paintings and has many masterpieces by artists such as Rembrandt and Constable.
London's Parks
You are never far from a park in central London, from the small and pretty Soho Square behind Mayfair School to the large open spaces of Hyde Park and Regents Park. London's Parks are a great place to relax and watch Londoners going about their business. Possibly the best free entertainment in town!
