Whoa! What a month February was! It started off with bang on Monday 2nd February with some of the heaviest snow fall the capital has seen in decades. London was transformed over night into a Christmas card image as the people of London woke to find their city covered in a thick white blanket of snow. Kids loved it, and rushed out to throw snowballs at each other - to be honest many adults did the same! However, London’s public transport system was not so keen on the weather as the Tube ground to a complete halt and all buses were cancelled. For the first time in its history Mayfair School (along with every other school on Oxford Street) was forced to close, but most of our students were to busy throwing snowballs to notice - for many of them it was the first time they had ever seen snow!
After all the excitement (or should that be havoc?) caused by the weather, February settled down to a more regular pace; the snow soon melted and life resumed as normal though it remained a very cold time to be in the windy streets of London. Still, Mayfair students are a hardy bunch and this month saw them out and about enjoying the events on our Social Programme as usual. ‘Culture’ was the key word to describe February’s programme: starting with a taste of Modern Art at London’s Tate Modern, followed by some Valentine’s music and dancing at London’s famous Onanon nightclub a week later, then a night of English cuisine and, finally, some sporting fun in the last week of February as our students went bowling in Elephant and Castle. Goodbye February, hello March!
