Mayfair News
December 2008 Events by Duncan Watson
December is a great time to be in London for it is indeed ‘the season of good will to all men’; and this year it has been quite a good time for buying stuff too! Never mind the ‘credit crunch’, if you are a visitor to London there has never been a better time to go shopping - almost every store has a sale on and with the pound at an all time low there are bargains everywhere just waiting to be snapped up. Mayfair School is no exception to this rule: the present exchange rate has made our courses even better value for money for foreign students looking to improve their English in 2009. As you can read from our site, we are introducing two new IELTS courses from January 2009, IELTS for LIFE and IELTS for STUDY; many of the places have already been taken up by our existing students eager to enhance their CVs with this qualification. Next year will also see the introduction of Mayfair College, a new faculty of Mayfair School which will offer university pathway courses in Business Management and Travel, Tourism and Hospitality entitling students to gain a degree from a range of over 20 prestigious British universities. Of course, these programmes will be competitively priced and offered at a discounted rate to students who have studied at MSE previously - keep an eye on this site for more information in 2009.
However, December was not all about study at our school because Christmas was here! As usual we had a varied and exciting itinerary of events for students to enjoy as part of our school’s Social Programme*, which included trips to the Winter Wonderland Fair and shopping at Southbank’s traditional Christmas Market. But this month the talk on everybody’s lips was of Mayfair School’s Christmas Party: our school organised a special event for the students at one of London’s most fashionable nightspots, Punk nightclub, favourite venue of many a celebrity such as Kate Moss and Sienna Miller. Held on the 15th December from 6pm, unfortunately, this was one party that Kate could not attend, as she was not invited (sorry Kate!); no, this party was for Mayfair School students and friends only (and, needless to say all the teachers too!). The night was an enormous success, with over 300 students filling the club to its maximum capacity and celebrating Christmas together in true Mayfair style. If you had good eyes that night, you might even have caught a glimpse of some of our teachers dancing! Don’t believe me? Well, just watch this space for photographic evidence to follow shortly!
