November 2009 Events by Duncan Watson

Our school is accredited by the British Council – this accreditation scheme (known as Accreditation UK) is designed to ensure that schools and college maintain high standard across a range of areas such as: management, resources, student welfare and, of course, academic provision. All members of this scheme are required to be inspected every four years. This November it was our turn for a re-inspection – so this month was a very important one for our school! Our two inspectors visited us on 11th and 12th November and proved themselves to be very personable and professional much to everyone’s relief. As with any ‘examination’, there were moments of tense nerves and nail biting amongst teachers and students alike. However, at the same time everyone enjoyed the opportunity to ‘show off’ the school to the inspectors. As a school we are very proud of the achievements of our students and teachers and we hope our inspectors will agree too!

November also saw the welcome addition of four new members of staff. Due to expansion in student numbers three new teachers, Kat, Jessica and Ted, came to work with us – we know they will all make a great contribution to the academic profile of the school. We also added one new face to our office staff in the form of Inan, former student and all-round ‘techno-geek’. Inan joins us as our new IT Support Officer to oversee the installation of new student monitoring software throughout the school in preparation for the full installation of Tier 4 of the UKBA’s Points Based System in February of 2010.

Phew that was a mouthful!

November was not all about work though – our students and staff still found time to have some fun as part of our school’s Social Programme. Events this month were eclectic in nature, ranging from a trip to see the fireworks on Bonfire Night, to a guided Jack the Ripper tour in London’s East End, a night of culinary Turkish Delight at London’s famous Ev restaurant and, if that were not enough, there was the chance to see some of the world’s most celebrated artworks at London’s National Gallery.

Oh you lucky students! Remember the big, big one is coming soon…I’m talking about the Mayfair Christmas Party! Details will be posted on this site in December.
