June 2010 Events by Duncan Watson

The school had its fingers crossed this month as our Mayfair College students prepared to sit their ABE (Association of Business Executives) exams in Business Management / Travel, Tourism and Hospitality at the beginning of June. For our Diploma Part 1 students these exams represented the culmination of 12 months of hard work and study so the pressure was really on for them. By the second week of June the exams were all over and our College students were able to relax again and think of other ways to amuse themselves until they find out their results in August.

This month also saw the departure of Farooq, one of the first lecturers on our Mayfair College programme. After 12 months of excellent service to his students Farooq has moved on to pastures new at Middlesex University, where we are sure he will continue to make an important contribution to the learning and pastoral needs of future budding entrepreneurs and students of Business Management.

Still, it was not all study, study, study this June as we were able to find time to cram in yet another fun-packed itinerary of Social Programme events; including a Picnic in Hyde Park with Zoë on Saturday 26th June; an evening of fine Turkish cuisine at Tas restaurant on 4th June; and then, one for the culture-vultures amongst our student body, a night of fine art at the National Gallery, followed, of course, by refreshments and a moonlight tour of Soho with Mayfair’s celebrated lover of the arts, Academic Coordinator and all-round bon viveur, Jamie.

Well, as if that was not enough to keep our students busy this month, you may have heard that there was a little sporting event going on down in South Africa….Yes, that’s right, the World Cup 2010! With over half the countries competing in the tournament represented amongst our students, you can bet the school went ‘football crazy’ as the proceedings kicked off. To celebrate the event in style Mayfair organised a special World Cup Party with the help of David, our Assistant Registrar…he’s Brazilian, don’t you know?!...

As the month draws to a close it is not looking good for the England football team, but it sure is shaping up to be another great summer at Mayfair!..

That’s all from me for now...I’ll check back with you in July!

Duncan
