Mayfair School was pleased to welcome a new lecturer to its teaching staff this month in the form of Alan, our new Mayfair College lecturer in Accountancy and Quantitative Methods. Alan comes to us part-time as he is currently completing his PhD at the London School of Economics; a native of the Philippines, he brings a new cultural perspective to the rich tapestry that is Mayfair School. We welcome Alan to our school, confident that he will make a great contribution to our students’ learning. But, let’s be honest, this month study was not the only thing on our students’ minds, was it?...

Come on England! Come on England! Come on…err, actually, I am half-Scottish and I much prefer cricket anyway...Well, that is what I told the students at the start of this month after my team, England, went crashing out of the World Cup to the old foe, Germany on 27 June. Still, in the end, Spain were worthy winners and, as all our Spanish students proved in style when their country clinched victory on 11 July, nobody knows how to fiesta better than the Spanish!!...So, well done Spain!

What better way to celebrate Spain’s victory than a visit to Bar Salsa, one of London’s most popular Latin clubs located just a stone’s throw away from our school? With teacher Zoë leading the way, on 16 July, the tone was set for one heck of a party to round off World Cup 2010 and provide the ‘jewel in the crown’ to this July’s Social Programme. But it was not all about football this month: we also managed to squeeze in an Excursion to Brighton on 30 July; a night of pizza appreciation at La Porchetta, one of London’s finest pizzerias, on 9 July; and a ‘historico-cultural’ tour of all teacher Ben’s favourite Soho pubs on 2 July. What more could you wish for in your social calendar?...

What’s that I hear our students say?...You would like to have a fantastic party with all your friends on an opulent river-cruise vessel going up and down the Thames on a gorgeous summer evening so you can dance, chat and see some of London’s greatest sites go drifting by…..

OK, then, you got it - Mayfair Summer Boat Party coming soon, Wednesday 4 August!...Tickets on sale now you lucky students!...
