January 2010 Events by Duncan Watson

What a month January has been for our school! We have seen the following significant developments take place over the course of the last few weeks:

1. The school has introduced a new high-tech database linked to sophisticated card-reader terminals around our site, which allows our school to handle students’ data in as efficient and secure a way as possible. We have made a significant investment in this technology in order to fully meet our responsibilities as a Tier 4 Sponsor of students under the UK Border Agency’s Points Based System. As a result of these changes we have also issued all students in our school with new ID cards which we hope will give students the confidence to know that our school is doing all it can to ensure that their data is 100% accurate and secure.

2. This month we also received the results of our recent British Council re-inspection. The inspection, which was in November 2009, takes place every four years as part of the Accreditation UK scheme. A lot of preparation goes into these inspections and we were pleased to learn that this was our best one yet! The school was praised on numerous ‘points of excellence’ in the report, which is fitting reward for all the hard work our staff have put in over the course of 2009. For the full text of our British Council publishable statement see here.

3. January also saw tremendous growth in the number of students enrolled on our Mayfair Collegecourses in Business Management and Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Management. For the first time we have been able to expand the curriculum above Certificate level (NQF 3) to offer the Diploma (NQF 5) programme as well. Good news for one of our students too, who scored the highest marks in her Accountancy exam in December – well done Noriko!

Of course, our Social Programme helped launch 2010 in style for students with Mayfair’s traditional New Year’s resolution breaking pub crawl on 8th Jan; and trips to other old favourites such as Ninety Nine Feet East, the coolest club in Brick Lane, on 15th January; and Taro, one of Soho’s finest Japanese restaurants, on 29th January.

Oh, you lucky, lucky students!

That’s all for this month – check back here for more news in February.

Duncan
