August 2011 Events by Duncan Watson

August is usually the hottest month of the year, but this one was an exception; in fact, August 2011 turned out to be the coldest August in 25 years! However, as we have often noted on this site before, Mayfair School students are a hardy bunch and not ones to let something as trivial as frequent downpours of rain, intermittent gale-force winds and bleak, grey overcast skies dampen their spirits! On the contrary, this month saw the school embark on yet another boat party to ‘celebrate’ the summer. As you can see from the photos and short video of the event, our second Mayfair Boat Party of the year, held on 18th August, was a roaring success despite (perhaps even because of ?!) the abysmal weather….

This month’s Social Programme did not end there, though, as we managed to pack in another four exciting events: for the party animals there were two night clubs events, with a party at London’s famous Pacha nightclub on 12th August and another night of fun at the world-famous Ministry of Sound on 24th August; for the lovers of fine art there was Richard’s tour of The National Portrait Gallery on 5th August, which may or may not have involved some liquid refreshment afterwards, I couldn’t possibly comment; and, for those with an appreciation for sites of recent historico-cultural significance and heritage, there was Jamie’s tour around Tower Bridge, one of London’s most iconic landmarks, which according to Jamie, is best appreciated from the bar in St. Katherine’s Dock! What more could you possibly want from your Social Programme?...

But wait, what’s that I hear you say?...You’d like the opportunity to shoot our Assistant Registrar, David, and longest-serving teacher, Aman, and each other repeatedly in the head, body and limbs and get a free pizza thrown in for lunch?... No, problem, consider it done! Watch out for our Mayfair Paintballing War coming soon in September!....

Oh, you lucky students!

Duncan
