April 2010 Events by Duncan Watson

Spring arrived in full this April and what a relief it was! The country was gripped with two items of news – the imminent general election, to take place on 6th May, and the eruption of a volcano in Iceland on 15th April. Who would have thought that something so far away could have such an impact on the UK? I am not referring to the election of course, but to the large cloud of ash that was sent spewing from the ground in Iceland. All flights in and out of the UK were cancelled for almost a week causing huge disruption to people travelling to and from the UK. Needless to say the school was also affected by this but it has already taken the decision to add 5 days of study to any students who missed study time from their courses over this period.

Our Social Programme this month was designed to reflect the onset of spring with two outdoor events forming its backbone. The programme began with a walk and dinner around London’s famous Chinatown district with Jessica, on 9th April, and culminates in the last week of April with a Saturday excursion to Greenwich Market, with Zoë. What better to way to enjoy the sunshine than that? With a special night of partying and dance at London’s renowned Onanon, on 16th April, and an evening of fine Turkish cuisine at Tas restaurant, on 23rd April, sandwiched in between, it has once again been a very busy month for Mayfair School students!

April was also a very significant month for Mayfair College students as the deadline for them to register for their exams with the Association of Business Executives expired this month. The vast majority of students attending these courses have opted to take their exams in June so we are all keeping our fingers crossed for them and hoping that they will achieve the results they need.

That’s all for this month – roll on May!

Duncan
